This project involved the design-build new construction of additions, renovations, and/or demolition of (4) buildings (#1090, #1128, #1169, and #1220) under a single Task Order contract at McConnell AFB to achieve the following mission objectives:
- Bldg. 1090: (217,000 SF) Demolition of building;
- Bldg. 1128: (4,500 SF new construction & 19,600 SF renovation) Integration of the Maintenance Squadron (MXS) Command Staff with the MXS Aircraft Fabrication Shop into a single location;
- Bldg. 1169: (100,300 SF renovation) Relocation from Bldg. 1090 of Logistics Readiness Squadron (LRS), Defense Reutilization and Marketing Office (DRMO) and Envision; and
- Bldg. 1220: (6,700 SF) Renovation / construction
Renovations to the buildings were necessary to enable the transitioning of personnel and functions in order to streamline operations. Major work items included: design, asbestos removal, demolition, structural steel, reinforced concrete floor & foundation, rough and finish carpentry, interior finishes, windows/doors/hardware, fire protection/suppression systems, HVAC, electrical, plumbing, perimeter security, communications, environmental controls, roofing, siding, masonry, and site work (excavation, parking lots, sidewalks, signage, landscaping, site lighting, and fencing). Renovations to (3) buildings were designed to meet LEED-Silver certification standards.
Utility coordination was required. Types of spaces included training areas, administrative areas, storage areas, maintenance and repair shops, loading docks, classrooms, and a weapons vault.
Through the duration of the project 65 contract modifications were initiated and accepted covering more than 150 separate line items which deviated from the original project documents. Throughout project performance our firm was cooperative in addressing the client’s changing needs and accommodating budget constraints. There were occasions when we carried out changes addressed in modifications at no cost to the Government.
